Are some of Labour’s critics old enough to understand that we have a national health service and welfare state, and had a free education service with maintenance grants , an Open university, all because of the Labour Party? All is provided universally – for us all – free at point of use. So when troubles happen, when the unthinkable happens, they are not alone.
In addition , when starting out in life, I had assistance with housing – a Birmingham City 100% mortgage to help me get a first home. Thatcher sold off social housing and people who could not afford their mortgage lost their homes which eventually fell in the hands of wealthy, so they became private landlords. Young people today have no chance of a home, and are left with huge student debts.
To those who are not old enough to remember, this and more is possible. It is because I believe young people deserve the chances I have had, that I will be voting Labour on June 8th.
Maintenance grants will be reinstated, and tuition fees scrapped, an NES will be set up providing an education for everyone, free at the point of use. The NHS is to stay in public hands, and Labour will be returning water, energy, rail and mail to public ownership and control. We must not allow foreign speculators to gamble with these basic needs and our food, our health and education. What was the point of #Brexit if we allow this to continue?
The #LabourManifesto is the Book of the Year, and it is well worth spending time reading it, it is there on the internet, and not to give time or credence to the evil lies which the very rich are peddling because they don’t want to share an ounce of their wealth with you, me, or our grandchildren.
The Conservatives social care policy is based on a #DementiaTax taking costs from the sale of any property left in your estate when you die. But when a recession hits, it has been predicted, and growth is slowimg , house prices will inevitably fall. How will the Tories then fund social care – bring in workhouses? It is likely they will snap up cheap housing and become landlords of your grandchildren, leaving people with no hope at all.
Who, with any sense of justice, compassion – or any empathy can vote Tory? For goodness sake, for all our sakes, we must #VoteLabour on June 8th.

You’re so right to point out that many ppl don’t have a clear memory of a working welfare state any more. In the 50s I grew up with a (youthful) pride in Britain because we didnt have poverty like much of the world overseas; people were intended to be looked after if they fell on bad times. It certainly wasn’t perfect, political struggles continued, but there was a perceived balance between capital and labour, rich & poor, that could at least be argued over.
Then Thatcher, Blair (a pause not a revival), Cameron & in betweens, let the privileged increase their advantage because apparently there were undeserving poor who had to feel their poverty to make them work harder, and deserving successful who had to be paid more and more to be encouraged to work at all.
Now anyone who was born in the eighties & later doesn’t have any experience of a State which takes responsibility to improve lives from the bottom up. So It’s obviously hard to put across what Labour is offering when so much is filtered through the right wing cut-throat competition vision of society.
Corbyn’s manifesto sets out another way, it needs reading as a whole, because it is a vision that needs to be put to work as a whole, because the money for it is generated by new investment, working & paying tax together, then it will work for all. Most importantly it is not going back to the old welfare state but rethinking it for the present and future, related to now because major industrial change is out there for the taking. The shift can be made by letting green, clean sustainable energy-saving industries create a complete change of investment patterns that allow benefit to trickle down by their very nature. We have the knowledge expertise export & manufacturing potential. It is all held back by an old guard jealously clinging to dying oil technologies and hoarding old money. It is a leap of faith, but one we desperately need to take.

Thanks Fran. Yes, it is a brilliant manifesto. Younger generations don’t appreciate how supportive society was for us growing up in 50s and 60s. I think it is a brilliant manifesto. I hope we see a socialist government some day, hopefully very soon. Because the alternative is unthinkable.

I agree entirely, the opportunity to use green industries may be missed, hopefully it will be the way forward as nearly all home industries have been closed, or shipped abroad
